The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about drinks from Yemen called bita and mizr. He said, "Whatever intoxicates is forbidden."
أن رسول الله ﷺ سئل عن شراب باليمن، يقال له: البتع والمزر؟ فقال: ما أسكر فهو حرام.
Abu Yaala (3971) narrated it from Muhammad bin Ismail bin Abu Sumaynah Basri, who said, Abdullah bin Idris narrated to us, from Mukhtar bin Fulful, from Anas bin Malik, who said, and then he related it. This will come in detail in the chapter on the Prophet's ﷺ permission regarding vessels. Its chain is hasan because of Mukhtar bin Fulful, for his hadith is hasan. Haythami attributed it in Majma (5/56) to Abu Yaala and said, "Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih."He also narrated it with the same meaning (3589) from Qawariri, who said, Abdul-Ala narrated to us, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Zuhri, from Anas bin Malik, who said, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbidding what is done with vessels and tarred containers, and forbidding the dubba gourd vessel, and he said, "Every intoxicant is forbidden." Its narrators are trustworthy except Ibn Ishaq, for he is a mudallis and he narrated with an, but he is not problematic when corroborated by other narrations.
