I asked Maqil bin Yasar about drinks, and he said, "We were in Madinah, where dates were abundant, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from fadikh."A man came to him and asked about his elderly mother, saying, "May I give her nabidh to drink, since she does not eat solid food?"Maqil forbade him from doing so.
سألت معقل بن يسار عن الشراب فقال: كنا بالمدينة، وكانت كثيرة التمر، فحرم علينا رسول الله ﷺ الفضيخ، وأتاه رجل فسأله عن أم له عجوز كبيرة: أيسقيها النبيذ، فإنها لا تأكل الطعام؟ فنهاه معقل.
Ahmad (20299) and Tabarani in al-Kabir (20/217, 224) both narrated it via Muthanna bin Awf, who said, "Abu Abdullah Jasri told us," and he related it. Tabarani's version does not include the story of the man with his elderly mother. Its isnad is sahih, and Abu Abdullah Jasri's name is Humayri, in the form of a lineage name, bin Bashir, and he is well known by his kunya.
