Allah revealed the verse in which He prohibited wine, and at that time there was no drink consumed in Medina except one made from dates.
لقد أنزل الله الآية التي حرم الله فيها الخمر، وما بالمدينة شراب يشرب إلا من تمر.
Muslim reported it in the Book of Drinks (1982), from Muhammad bin Muthanna, who said, Abu Bakr Hanafi narrated to us, who said, Abdul-Hameed bin Jafar narrated to us, who said, my father narrated to me, that he heard Anas bin Malik say, and he mentioned it.
