Reported by Abu Dawud (3786), Tirmidhi (1825), Ibn Majah (1825), Nasai (4448), and Ahmad (1989, 2161, 2671), and graded sahih by Ibn Hibban (5399) and Hakim (2/102), all of them through the route of Qatada, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, who related it.The wording given here is that of Abu Dawud, who abridged it, while others added the prohibition against eating an animal killed by being left tied up and shot, and against drinking from the mouth of a waterskin, except that Hakim gave it with the wording "riding a jalla animal" instead of "the milk of a jalla animal," in the narration of Saeed bin Abu Aruba as found in the Musnad and Sahih Ibn Hibban, and in the narration of Hisham Dastawai as found in the Sunan and the Musnad.Saeed and Hisham are the most reliable of people in transmitting from Qatada, so if either of them alone had contradicted Hammad, their word would have been the one accepted, so how much more so when the two of them agree together. Accordingly, the sahih version of this hadith is the narration of the one who said "and concerning the milk of a jalla animal," while "concerning riding it" is shadhdh.
