The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, no fanged beast of prey is permissible to eat, nor is the domestic donkey, nor lost property belonging to a person under treaty protection, unless its owner has no need of it. And any man who is hosted by a people and they fail to show him hospitality has the right to take from them the equivalent of what their hospitality should have been."
Abu Dawud (3804) narrated it from Muhammad bin Musaffa Himsi, who said, Muhammad bin Harb narrated to us, from Zubaydi, from Marwan bin Rubah Taghlabi, from Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Awf, from Miqdam bin Mad Yakrib, and he mentioned it. Ibn Hibban (12) graded it sahih from this same route, narrating it through Muhammad bin Harb with his chain, and its wording was, "I have been given the Book and something equal to it. A time is coming when a man, full and reclining on his couch, will say, 'Between me and you is only this Book. Whatever it declares lawful, we take as lawful, and whatever it declares unlawful, we take as unlawful.' But indeed it is not so." He confined himself to the beginning of the hadith and did not mention the rest of it.In their chains is Marwan bin Rubah Taghlabi, whom no one but Ibn Hibban deemed reliable, which is why Hafiz said of him, "Acceptable," meaning when corroborated, and he has indeed been corroborated. Abu Dawud (4604) and Ahmad (17174) narrated it through Hurayz bin Uthman, from Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Awf, from Miqdam, in full. Its chain is sahih.
