Malik narrated it in Sacrifices (2176, the narration of Abu Musab Zuhri) from Ibn Shihab, from Abu Idris Khawlani, from Abu Thalaba Khushani, and he related it.Bukhari narrated it in Slaughtered Animals and Game (5530) from Abdullah bin Yusuf, who said, Malik informed us of it in the same manner.Muslim narrated it in Game and Slaughtered Animals (1932:14) through the route of Malik and others, in the same manner. In another narration from Ibn Shihab, he added that he said, "I did not hear this from our scholars in Hijaz until Abu Idris told me of it, and he was one of the jurists of the people of Syria."This is what Zuhri said according to his own knowledge, because Abu Thalaba Khushani had moved to Syria, and Abu Idris Khawlani, the Syrian, learned from him there. Otherwise, the hadith was well known in Madinah through the narration of Abu Hurairah, and in Hijaz through the narration of Ibn Abbas, since he had moved to Makkah and then to Taif.Yahya Laythi alone narrated it from Malik in Game (13) with the aforementioned chain of transmission from Abu Thalaba, with the wording, "Eating any fanged beast of prey is forbidden." Ibn Abdul-Barr holds that this wording belongs to the hadith of Abu Hurairah that follows.Tamhid (6/11)
