The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade eating the flesh of the spiny-tailed lizard.
أن رسول الله ﷺ نهى عن أكل لحم الضب.
Recorded by Abu Dawud (3796), Bayhaqi (9/326), and Ibn Jareer Tabari in Tahzib Athar (311, Musnad Umar bin Khattab), all of them through the route of Abu Yaman Hakam bin Nafi, who said, Ismail bin Ayyash narrated to us, from Damdam bin Zura, from Shurayh bin Ubayd, from Abu Rashid Hubrani, from Abdul-Rahman bin Shibl, and he related it.Its chain of transmission is hasan, due to the discussion surrounding Damdam bin Zura Himsi, for there is disagreement about him, though his hadith is hasan. As for Ismail bin Ayyash, even though there has been discussion about him, his hadith from the people of his own land is strong, and this narration is one of those. Likewise, Hafiz also graded it hasan in Fath al-Bari (9/665).
