I asked Jabir, "Is the hyena considered game?"He replied, "Yes."I asked, "May it be eaten?"He replied, "Yes."I asked him, "Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say so?"He replied, "Yes."
قلت لجابر: الضبع صيد هي؟ قال: نعم، قال: قلت: أكلها؟ قال: نعم، قال: قلت له: أقاله رسول الله ﷺ؟ قال: نعم.
Narrated by Tirmidhi (1791) and Nasai (2836, 4323), and graded sahih by Ibn Khuzayma (2645), Ibn Hibban (3695), and Hakim (1/452), all of them through routes from Ibn Jurayj, who said, Abdullah bin Ubayd bin Umayr informed me, from Ibn Abu Ammar, who said, and he mentioned it.Its chain is sahih, and Ibn Abu Ammar's name is Abdul-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Abu Ammar Makki, a trustworthy narrator. Tirmidhi said, "A hasan sahih hadith." And he said in Ilal al-Kabir (2/757), "I asked Muhammad, meaning Bukhari, about this hadith, and he said, It is a sahih hadith."Hakim graded it sahih according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim). This is what he said, but Ibn Abu Ammar is among the narrators of Muslim alone.
