I obtained a sack of fat on the day of Khaybar. I clutched it to myself and said, "I will not give anyone any part of this today."Then I turned around, and there was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiling.
أصبت جرابا من شحم يوم خيبر قال: فالتزمته فقلت: لا أعطي اليوم أحدا من هذا شيئا. قال: فالتفت فإذا رسول الله ﷺ مبتسما.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Jihad (1772) from Shayban bin Farroukh, who said, Sulayman bin Mughira told us, Humayd bin Hilal told us, from Abdullah bin Mughafal, and he related it. Bukhari and Muslim both narrated it, Bukhari in the Book of Military Expeditions (4214), and Muslim, both through another route from Shuba, from Humayd bin Hilal with their chains of transmission. In it, Abdullah bin Mughafal says, "A bag containing food and fat was thrown to us on the day of Khaybar, so I jumped to take it. He said, Then I turned and there was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I felt too ashamed before him."
