The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the aqiqah for Hasan and Husayn with two rams each.
عق رسول الله ﷺ عن الحسن والحسين -رضي الله عنهما- بكبشين كبشين.
Nasai (4219) narrated it from Ahmad bin Hafs bin Abdullah, who said, "My father narrated to me," who said, "Ibrahim, that is, Ibn Tahman, narrated to me, from Hajjaj bin Hajjaj, from Qatada, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas," and he mentioned it. Its isnad is sahih.Abu Dawud (2841) also narrated it, and Bayhaqi (9/299) by his route, and Ibn Jarud (911) and others, from Abdul-Warith, from Ayub, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned something similar. But Ibn Jarud said following it, "Thawri, Ibn Uyayna, Hammad bin Zayd, and others narrated it from Ayub without going beyond Ikrima with it." Abu Hatim likewise faulted it for being a mursal narration, saying, "The mursal version is more sahih." Al-Ilal (2/49).I say, the corroboration of Ayub, despite the disagreement over him, for Qatada suggests that the connected version is sound, so perhaps Ayub sometimes connected it and other times narrated it as mursal, and the foundation of it is the hadith of Qatada.
