Muslim narrated it in the Book of Trials (2937) within a long hadith already mentioned at the beginning of the chapter. Lud is a town located west of Jerusalem, about twenty-six miles away.There is also a corroborating narration in this chapter, which is what Mujammi bin Jariya reported when he said, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "The son of Maryam will kill Dajjal at the gate of Lud."Tirmidhi narrated it (2244) from Qutayba, who said, Layth narrated to us, from Ibn Shihab, that he heard Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Thalaba the Ansari relate from Abdul-Rahman bin Yazid the Ansari, of Banu Amr bin Awf, who said, I heard my uncle Mujammi bin Jariya the Ansari, and he mentioned it.Imam Ahmad also narrated it (3/420), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (6811), both of them through the route of Layth bin Saad, with his chain, similarly.Tirmidhi said, "Sahih." And in one copy it reads, "Hasan sahih."I say, rather this chain contains Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Thalaba the Ansari, from Madinah, though it has also been said, Abdullah bin Ubaydullah, and it is not known who he is. Mizzi said in his Tahdheeb, "There is considerable disagreement about him, both regarding Zuhri and regarding his students." Dhahabi said in Al-Mizan, "He is not mentioned in Bukhari's history, nor in Ibn Abu Hatim's, and no one narrated from him except Zuhri, and there are several opinions concerning the defect in the hadith." End of quote. And Hafiz said, "The teacher of Zuhri is not known, and there is disagreement about the chain of his hadith."I say, however, there is no harm in citing it as corroboration, given what is established in the hadith of Nawas bin Saman that the Messiah, son of Maryam, will kill Dajjal at the gate of Lud. Perhaps this is why Tirmidhi graded it sahih or hasan.
