The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "People of Medina, do not eat the meat of the sacrificial animals beyond three days."The people complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that they had dependents, household members, and servants to feed. He then said, "Eat, feed others, and keep some," or he said, "store some away."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: يا أهل المدينة لا تأكلوا لحوم الأضاحي فوق ثلاث فشكوا إلى رسول الله ﷺ أن لهم عيالا وحشما وخدما فقال: كلوا وأطعموا واحبسوا- أو ادخروا-.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Udhiya (33:1973) from Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba, who said, Abdul-Ala narrated to us from Jareeri, from Abu Nadra, from Abu Saeed, and he related it. And from Muhammad bin Muthanna, who said, Abdul-Ala narrated to us, Saeed narrated to us (he is Jareeri), from Qatada, from Abu Nadra, from Abu Saeed Khudri, and he related it. So he added a man in the chain of Ibn Muthanna, namely Qatada, who was not mentioned in some of the narrations of Sahih Muslim, as Jayyani noted in Taqyid (3/892).Nasai narrated it (4434) through another route from Ibn Sirin, from Abu Saeed Khudri, with the wording, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade keeping the udhiya beyond three days," then he said, "Eat and feed others." Its chain is sahih if Ibn Sirin heard it from Abu Saeed, for he transmitted directly (in mursal form) from a group of the companions.
