He was present at the Eid prayer with Umar bin Khattab. He said, "Then I prayed with Ali bin Abu Talib, who led us in prayer before the sermon, then addressed the people and said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade you to eat the meat of your sacrifices beyond three nights, so do not eat it.'"
أنه شهد العيد مع عمر بن الخطاب قال: ثم صليت مع علي بن أبي طالب قال: فصلى لنا قبل الخطبة، ثم خطب الناس فقال: إن رسول الله ﷺ قد نهاكم أن تأكلوا لحوم نسككم فوق ثلاث ليال فلا تأكلوا.
Bukhari narrated it in the Chapter on Sacrifices (5573), and Muslim in the Chapter on Sacrifices (25:1969), both through the route of Yunus (he is Ibn Yazid al-Ayli), from Ibn Shihab, [who said] Abu Ubayd, the freedman of Ibn Azhar, narrated to me, and he related it. The wording given here is Muslim's.There is a report from Ali, as a raised hadith, granting permission to eat the sacrificial meat beyond three days. Perhaps he recalled this afterward, and so he related the permission, as will come later.
