The Prophet ﷺ delivered a sermon to us on the day of Eid al-Adha after the prayer and said, "Whoever prays our prayer and performs our sacrifice has performed the sacrifice correctly. But whoever sacrifices before the prayer, that is just slaughter before the prayer, and there is no sacrifice for him."Abu Burda bin Niyar, the maternal uncle of al-Bara, said, "Messenger of Allah, I sacrificed my sheep before the prayer. I knew that today is a day of eating and drinking, and I wanted my sheep to be the first thing slaughtered in my house, so I slaughtered my sheep and ate breakfast before coming to the prayer."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Your sheep is just a sheep for meat."Abu Burda said, "Messenger of Allah, we have a young she-goat that is dearer to me than two sheep. Will it suffice for me?"He answered, "Yes, but it will not suffice for anyone after you."
