A man stood up on the day of the Conquest of Mecca and said, "Messenger of Allah, I made a vow to Allah that if He granted you victory over Mecca, I would pray two units of prayer in Bayt al-Maqdis."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Pray here."The man repeated his question, and the Prophet ﷺ said again, "Pray here."When the man repeated it once more, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Then do as you wish."
Reported by Abu Dawud (3305), Ahmad (14919), Hakim (4/304), Bayhaqi (10/82–83), and Ibn Jarud (945), all from the hadith of Hammad bin Salama, from Habib al-Muallim, from Ata bin Abu Rabah, from Jabir bin Abdullah, who related it. From Jabir bin Abdullah, who related it. Abu Dawud said, "Something similar to it has been narrated from Abdul-Rahman bin Awf, from the Prophet ﷺ." I say, its chain is sahih. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the standard of the two Shaykhs [Bukhari and Muslim]." The unnamed man is Sharid, as mentioned in the narration of Ata bin Abu Rabah, who said, Sharid came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I vowed that if Allah granted you victory, I would pray in Bayt al-Maqdis." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Pray here." He repeated his statement, and the Prophet said the same thing, until he had said it three times, with the Prophet ﷺ saying each time, "Pray here." On the fourth time, he said to him, "Go, for by the One in whose hand is my soul, had you prayed here it would have sufficed you." Then he said, "A prayer in this Masjid al-Haram is better than a hundred thousand prayers."This was reported by Abdul-Razzaq (15891) from Ibrahim bin Yazid, from Ata, except that it is mursal. As for the hadith of Abdul-Rahman bin Awf which Abu Dawud referred to, it contains unknown narrators. It was reported by Abu Dawud (3306) in a shortened form, and by Abdul-Razzaq (15890) at length, from Ibn Jurayj, who said, Yusuf bin Hakam bin Abu Sufyan informed me that Hafs bin Umar bin Abdul-Rahman bin Awf and Amr bin Hannah informed him, from Umar bin Abdul-Rahman bin Awf, from men of the Ansar among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, that a man from the Ansar came to the Prophet ﷺ on the day of the conquest, and he related something similar to the hadith of Jabir bin Abdullah. It also states, Ibn Jurayj said, I was informed that this man was Sharid bin Suwayd, of Sadaf, who was of Thaqif.Among the narrators are Hafs bin Umar bin Abdul-Rahman and Amr bin Hannah, and their teacher Umar bin Abdul-Rahman bin Awf, all of whom are "acceptable" as stated in Taqrib, meaning they are accepted when corroborated, as is the case with Hafs bin Umar bin Abdul-Rahman and Amr bin Hannah, since one of them corroborates the other. However, I have not found a corroboration for Umar bin Abdul-Rahman bin Awf. And Allah knows best.Ibn Musayab said, "Whoever vows to observe itikaf in the masjid of Ilya and instead observes itikaf in the masjid of the Prophet ﷺ in Madinah, it suffices for him. And whoever vows to observe itikaf in the masjid of the Prophet ﷺ in Madinah and instead observes itikaf in Masjid al-Haram, it suffices for him. But whoever vows to observe itikaf on mountaintops should not do so, rather let him observe itikaf in a masjid where people gather."This was reported by Abdul-Razzaq (15889) from Mamar, from Abdul-Kareem Jazari, from Ibn Musayab, who related it.
