I was riding behind the Prophet ﷺ on a donkey called Ufayr. He said, "Muaz, do you know what is Allah's right over His servants, and what is the servants' right upon Allah?"I replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best."He said, "Allah's right over the servants is that they worship Him and associate nothing with Him, and the servants' right upon Allah is that He will not punish anyone who does not associate anything with Him."I asked, "Messenger of Allah, shall I not give the people this good news?"He said, "Do not tell them, for they will rely upon it."
Bukhari narrated it in the book of jihad and expeditions (2856), and Muslim in the book of faith (49/30), both from the hadith of Abu Ahwas Salam bin Salim, from Abu Ishaq, from Amr bin Maymun, from Muaz bin Jabal, who mentioned it, and their wording is the same.
