When the people of slander said about her what they said, Allah declared her innocent. The Prophet ﷺ then stood and asked to be excused from any blame for taking action against Abdullah bin Ubayy. Usayd bin Hudayr stood up and said to Saad bin Ubada, "By the life of Allah, we shall surely kill him."
حين قال لها أهل الإفك ما قالوا، فبرأها الله، فقام النبي ﷺ فاستعذر من عبد الله بن أبي، فقام أسيد بن حضير، فقال لسعد بن عبادة: لعمر الله لنقتلنه.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Oaths and Vows (6662), and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Repentance (2770:56), through a route from Zuhri, who said, I heard Urwa bin Zubayr, Saeed bin Musayab, Alqama bin Waqqas, and Ubaydullah bin Abdullah, narrating from the account of Ayesha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, concerning what the people of the slander said about her, and how Allah declared her innocent. Each of them related to me a portion of the account, and he narrated it accordingly. The wording given here is that of Bukhari, while Muslim has it in full, in its complete and lengthy form.
