Bukhari narrated it in the Chapter on Legal Punishments (6849) from Amr bin Ali, who said, Fudayl bin Sulayman narrated to us, who said, Muslim bin Abu Maryam narrated to us, who said, Abdul-Rahman bin Jabir narrated to me, and then he related it.This hadith has been narrated in three ways. The first is that Abdul-Rahman bin Jabir bin Abdullah narrated it from his father, from Abu Burda Ansari, as Muslim narrated it in the Chapter on Legal Punishments (1708/40). The second is that Abdul-Rahman bin Jabir heard this hadith directly from Abu Burda Ansari. The third is that Abdul-Rahman bin Jabir relates this hadith from someone who heard the Prophet ﷺ, leaving the companion unnamed.There is no contradiction between the second and third ways, for Abdul-Rahman bin Jabir heard this hadith without going through his father, except that at one time he stated the companion's name, who was Abu Burda Ansari, and at another time he left him unnamed. Reconciling the first way with the other two, he first heard it from his father, from Abu Burda, and then it became possible for him to hear it directly from Abu Burda. This has many parallels in the books of hadith.Since reconciliation is possible, no attention should be paid to the claim of those who say there is confusion in its chain of transmission, because Abdul-Rahman bin Jabir bin Abdullah is trustworthy, and when he explicitly states that he heard it directly, his statement is accepted, and leaving the companion unnamed causes no harm, as is well known in this field of knowledge.Both Bukhari and Muslim agreed on grading it sahih, and they are the primary authorities in such grading. The disagreement is only in which version is preferred. Daraqutni preferred the narration of Layth, while others preferred the narration of Amr bin Harith, who mentioned the intermediary between Abdul-Rahman bin Jabir and Abu Burda. All of it is sahih. Daraqutni also graded it sahih after examining the disagreement, and he leaned toward what the authors of the two Sahihs leaned toward. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.It has a daif supporting narration, which is what was narrated from Abu Hurairah as a saying of the Prophet, "Do not give more than ten lashes as a disciplinary punishment." Ibn Majah narrated it (2602) from Hisham bin Ammar, who said, Ismail bin Ayyash narrated to us, who said, Abbad bin Kathir narrated to us, from Yahya bin Abu Kathir, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, and then he related it.Abbad bin Kathir is Thaqafi Basri, who is daif by the agreement of the scholars, to the point that Ahmad said, "He narrated fabricated hadiths."
