Saaib bin Yazid reported,

Rubai bin Mura reported, "During the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the rule of Abu Bakr, and the early part of Umar's caliphate, a drunkard would be brought to us and we would strike him with our hands, our sandals, and our cloaks. Then, toward the end of Umar's rule, he ordered forty lashes, and when people grew defiant and openly transgressed, he ordered eighty lashes."
