The Prophet ﷺ said, "The hand is to be cut off for theft of a quarter of a Dinar or more."In another wording, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to cut off the hand of a thief for a quarter of a Dinar or more.
قال النبي ﷺ: تقطع اليد في ربع دينار فصاعدا. وفي لفظ: كان رسول الله ﷺ يقطع السارق في ربع دينار فصاعدا
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Hudud (6789) and Muslim in the Book of Hudud (1684), both of them through Zuhri, from Amra, from Ayesha, and I have already mentioned it. The wording given is Bukhari's, and the second wording is Muslim's. The other narration, also from Muslim, comes through Ibn Shihab, from Urwa and Amra, from Ayesha, from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said what has already been mentioned.Malik narrated it in the Book of Hudud (23) from Yahya bin Saeed (that is, Ansari), from Amra bint Abdul-Rahman, from Ayesha, wife of the Prophet ﷺ, that she said, "It has not been long, and I have not forgotten, that the hand is cut off for a quarter of a dinar or more."This stopped narration does not detract from the raised one, rather it supports it, for she used to relate it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and issue rulings based on it.
