Tirmidhi (1437), Ibn Majah (2557), and Ahmad (20856) all narrated it through Sharik, from Simak, from Jabir bin Samura, who related it. Sharik is Ibn Abdullah Nakhai, who was graded daif due to poor memory, but this narration has a supporting version.Abu Dawud Tayalisi (812) narrated it from Hammad bin Salama, from Simak, with the same wording. With this supporting narration, this hadith becomes hasan.Tirmidhi said, "Most scholars act upon this. They said, if the People of the Book dispute and bring their case to the rulers of the Muslims, the rulers should judge between them according to the Book, the Sunnah, and the rulings of the Muslims. This is the view of Ahmad and Ishaq. Some scholars said the punishment for fornication should not be applied to them. The first view is more sahih." End of quote.
