A man said, "Messenger of Allah, these are the sons of Thalaba who killed so-and-so during the days of ignorance, so take vengeance for us against them."The Prophet ﷺ raised his hands until I could see the whiteness of his armpits, saying, "A mother does not bring guilt upon her child twice."
أن رجلا قال: يا رسول الله هؤلاء بنو ثعلبة الذين قتلوا فلانا في الجاهلية فخذ لنا بثأرنا. فرفع يديه حتى رأيت بياض إبطيه وهو يقول: لا تجني أم على ولد مرتين.
Narrated by Nasai (4839) and Ibn Majah (2670), with the wording being theirs, and Ibn Hibban (6562) and Hakim (2/611–612) graded it sahih, all of them from the hadith of Yazid bin Ziyad bin Abu Jaad, from Jami bin Shaddad, from Tariq bin Abdullah Muharibi, who related it within a long account mentioned in the biography of the Prophet ﷺ concerning what he faced from his people.Hakim said, "Sahih according to the standard of the two Shaykhs." Its chain of transmission is hasan on account of Yazid bin Ziyad bin Abu Jaad, whose hadith is hasan.
