The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abu Jahm bin Hudhayfah as a collector of zakat. A man disputed with him over his zakat, so Abu Jahm struck him and wounded his head. The man's people came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Retaliation, Messenger of Allah!"The Prophet ﷺ said, "You shall have such and such," but they were not satisfied. He said, "You shall have such and such," and they were satisfied. Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "I will address the people this evening and inform them of your acceptance."They said, "Yes."So the Prophet ﷺ gave a sermon and said, "These men of Layth came to me seeking retaliation. I offered them such and such, and they accepted." Then he asked them, "Are you satisfied?"They said, "No."The Muhajirun were about to attack them, but the Prophet ﷺ ordered them to hold back, and they held back. Then he called the men of Layth and increased the offer, and asked, "Are you satisfied?"They said, "Yes."He said, "I will address the people and inform them of your acceptance."They said, "Yes."So the Prophet ﷺ gave a sermon, then asked them, "Are you satisfied?"They said, "Yes."
