A man came to the Prophet ﷺ crying out for help.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "What is the matter with you?"He replied, "My master saw me kissing a slave girl of his, so he cut off my private parts."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Bring the man to me." He was searched for, but could not be found.So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Go, you are free."The man asked, "Messenger of Allah, who will support me?" meaning, "What if my master tries to enslave me again?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "It is the duty of every believer," or he said, "every Muslim."
جاء رجل إلى النبي ﷺ صارخا. فقال له رسول الله ﷺ: مالك؟ قال: سيدي رآني أقبل جارية له، فجب مذاكيري، فقال النبي ﷺ: علي بالرجل فطلب، فلم يقدر عليه. فقال رسول الله ﷺ: اذهب فأنت حر قال: على من نصرتي يا رسول الله! قال: يقول: أرأيت إن استرقني مولاي؟ فقال رسول الله ﷺ: على كل مؤمن أو مسلم.
Narrated by Abu Dawud (4519), Ibn Majah (2680), Ahmad (6710), Bayhaqi (8/36), and Abdul-Razzaq (17932), all from the hadith of Amr bin Shuayb, from his father, from his grandfather, and he related it. Its chain is hasan because of him.Abu Dawud said, "The one who was freed was named Rawh bin Dinar."Abu Dawud said, "The one who mutilated him was Zanbaa."Abu Dawud said, "This Zanbaa, the father of Rawh, was the master of the slave."In Ahmad's version, Zanbaa, the father of Rawh, found a slave of his with a slave girl of his, so he cut off his nose and mutilated him. The slave came to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "Who did this to you?" He said, "Zanbaa." So the Prophet ﷺ summoned him and said, "What led you to do this?" He said, "Such and such happened." The Prophet ﷺ said to the slave, "Go, for you are free." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, whose freedman am I then?" He said, "The freedman of Allah and His Messenger." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entrusted him to the Muslims.He said, "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, he came to Abu Bakr and said, 'This is the bequest of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' He said, 'Yes, we will provide sustenance for you and your dependents.' So he provided for him until Abu Bakr died. When Umar became caliph, he came to him and said, 'This is the bequest of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' He said, 'Yes, where do you wish to go?' He said, 'Egypt.' So Umar wrote to the governor of Egypt instructing him to give him land to live off."Perhaps at the outset he had no power over his master, then later he gained power over him, yet the Prophet ﷺ did not exact retribution from him for it.
