Rabi, who was the daughter of Nadr, broke the front tooth of a young girl. Her family demanded compensation, while Rabi's family asked them to pardon the offense, but they refused. They went to the Prophet ﷺ, who ordered that retaliation be carried out.Anas bin Nadr said, "Will Rabi's tooth be broken, Messenger of Allah? No, by the One who sent you with the truth, her tooth shall not be broken!"The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Anas, the Book of Allah prescribes retaliation."The people then agreed and pardoned her.The Prophet ﷺ said, "Among the servants of Allah there are some who, if they swear an oath by Allah, He fulfills it for them."Fazari added in his narration from Humayd, from Anas, "The people agreed and accepted the compensation."
Bukhari narrated it in Sulh (2703), from Muhammad bin Abdullah Ansari, who said, Humayd narrated to me, that Anas narrated it to them, and he mentioned the hadith. As for the narration of Fazari (that is, Marwan bin Muawiya), Bukhari connected it in Tafsir (4611), from Humayd, from Anas, who said, Rubayyi (the paternal aunt of Anas bin Malik) broke the front tooth of a girl from the Ansar, and he mentioned the rest of the hadith in the same way.So perhaps they first accepted the compensation, then later forgave it. A similar incident occurred regarding the wounding of a person, which is the one coming next.
