The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ruled regarding the floodwater of Mahzur that it should be held back until it reaches the ankles, then released to flow on.
أن رسول الله ﷺ قضى في سيل مهزور أن يمسك حتى يبلغ الكعبين، ثم يرسل الماء.
Abu Dawud (3639) and Ibn Majah (2482) narrated it from Ahmad bin Abdah, who said, Mughira bin Abdul-Rahman informed us, who said, my father narrated to me, from Amr bin Shuayb, and he mentioned it.The father of Mughira is Abdul-Rahman bin Harith bin Abdullah bin Ayyash Makhzumi, who is disputed, though his hadith is hasan. Also in it is Amr bin Shuayb, whose hadith is hasan.
