"People were once judged by revelation during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but revelation has now ceased. We can only judge you now by what is apparent to us from your actions. Whoever shows us good, we trust him and bring him close, and we have no concern with his inner state. Allah will hold him to account for what he conceals. And whoever shows us evil, we do not trust him and do not believe him, even if he claims that his inner state is good."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Testimonies (2641), from Hakam bin Nafi, who said, Shuayb informed us, from Zuhri, who said, Humayd bin Abdul-Rahman bin Awf narrated to me, that Abdullah bin Utbah said, I heard Umar bin Khattab say, then he mentioned it.
