The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Abu Dharr, I see that you are weak, and I love for you what I love for myself. Never take charge over two people, and never take responsibility for the property of an orphan."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: يا أبا ذر إني أراك ضعيفا، وإني أحب لك ما أحب لنفسي، لا تأمرن على اثنين، ولا تولين مال يتيم.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Emirate (1826) through several routes from Abdullah bin Yazid Muqri, who said, Saeed bin Abu Ayub told us, from Ubaydullah bin Abu Jafar Qurashi, from Salim bin Abu Salim Jayshani, from his father, from Abu Dharr, and he related it.Nawawi, may Allah have mercy on him, said, "This hadith is a great foundational principle regarding avoiding positions of authority, especially for one who lacks the strength to fulfill the duties of such authority. As for the disgrace and regret mentioned, they apply to one who was not fit for it, or who was fit but did not act justly in it, for Allah will disgrace him on the Day of Resurrection and expose him, and he will regret what he neglected. But as for one who was fit for authority and acted justly in it, he has a great merit, which is affirmed by the sahih hadiths." End of quote.
