The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I am only a human being, and you bring your disputes to me. It may be that one of you is more eloquent in presenting his argument than the other, so I rule in his favor based on what I hear. Whoever I rule in favor of by giving him something that belongs to his brother, let him not take it, for I am only granting him a portion of the Fire."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: إنما أنا بشر، وإنكم تختصمون إلي، فلعل بعضكم أن يكون ألحن بحجته من بعض، فأقضي له على نحو ما أسمع منه، فمن قضيت له بشيء من حق أخيه، فلا يأخذن منه شيئا، فإنما أقطع له قطعة من النار.
Malik narrated it in Aqdiyah (1) from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Zaynab bint Abu Salama, from Umm Salama, and he related it.Bukhari narrated it in Ahkam (7169) via Malik, with the same wording, similarly.Muslim narrated it in Aqdiyah (4:1713) via Abu Muawiya, from Hisham bin Urwa, with the same wording, and he related it.
