He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "When a judge renders a ruling, exercising his judgment and arrives at the correct decision, he receives two rewards. When he renders a ruling, exercising his judgment and errs, he receives one reward."
أنه سمع رسول الله ﷺ يقول: إذا حكم الحاكم فاجتهد ثم أصاب فله أجران، وإذا حكم فاجتهد ثم أخطأ فله أجر.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Holding Fast to the Book and the Sunnah (7352), and Muslim in the Book of Judgments (15:1716), both through Yazid bin Abdullah bin Usama bin Had, from Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Harith, from Busr bin Saeed, from Abu Qays, the freed slave of Amr bin As, from Amr bin As, who related it.Yazid bin Abdullah bin Had said, "I related this hadith to Abu Bakr bin Amr bin Hazm, and he said, 'This is how Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman related it to me, from Abu Hurairah.'"
