The wife of the Prophet ﷺ reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, "A woman whose husband has died must not wear garments dyed with safflower or with red ochre, nor wear jewelry, nor dye her hands with henna, nor apply kohl to her eyes."
زوج النبي ﷺ عن النبي ﷺ أنه قال: المتوفى عنها زوجها لا تلبس المعصفر من الثياب، ولا الممشقة، ولا الحلي، ولا تختضب، ولا تكتحل.
Narrated by Abu Dawud (2304), Nasai (3535), and Ahmad (26581), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (4306). All of them narrated it from the hadith of Yahya bin Abu Bukayr, [who said], "Ibrahim bin Tahman narrated to us, saying, 'Budayl narrated to me, from Hasan bin Muslim, from Safiya bint Shayba, from Umm Salama'," and he related it.Its chain of transmission is sahih, and Budayl is Ibn Maysara Aqeeli, who is trustworthy.
