Sabi gave birth twenty-three or twenty-five days after her husband's death. Once she had recovered, she expressed interest in remarrying, and this was disapproved of. The matter was mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "If she does so, her waiting period has already ended."
Reported by Tirmidhi (1193), Nasai (3508), Ibn Majah (2027), and Ahmad (18713), and Ibn Hibban (4299) graded it sahih, all of them from the hadith of Mansur, from Ibrahim, from Aswad, from Abu Sanabil, and he mentioned it.Tirmidhi said, "The hadith of Abu Sanabil is a well-known hadith transmitted this way, but we do not know of Aswad having heard directly from Abu Sanabil. I heard Muhammad say, 'I do not know that Abu Sanabil lived after the Prophet ﷺ.'" This is what Bukhari said, following his principle of requiring that a meeting between narrators be established, even if only once. But Aswad bin Yazid Nakhai is among the senior Successors and companions of Ibn Masud, and he was not described as one who practiced tadlis. So the hadith is sahih according to the standard of Muslim, as Ibn Hajar stated in Fath al-Bari (9/472).
