I was informed that Thabit bin Qays bin Shammas struck his wife and broke her hand. She was Jamilah bint Abdullah bin Ubayy. Her brother came to complain about him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for Thabit and said to him, "Take back what you gave her and let her go."Thabit replied, "Yes."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then ordered her to wait for one menstrual cycle and then return to her family.
Nasai (3497) narrated it from Abu Ali Muhammad bin Yahya Marwazi, who said, Shazan bin Uthman, the brother of Abdan, informed me, saying, my father narrated to us, saying, Ali bin Mubarak narrated to us, from Yahya bin Abu Kathir, who said, Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman informed me that Rubayyi bint Muawwidh informed him, and he mentioned it. Its chain is sahih.Daraqutni narrated it through another route from Ibn Lahia, who said, Abu Aswad narrated to us, from Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman and Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman bin Thawban with his chain, and he mentioned it. This contains a corroboration for Yahya bin Abu Kathir and Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman. However, its chain contains Ibn Lahia, about whom there is well known discussion.
