A man said, "I had a wife whom I loved dearly, but Umar disliked her. He told me, 'Divorce her,' but I refused. So Umar went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned the matter to him."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Divorce her."In another narration, "Obey your father."
كانت تحتي امرأة، وكنت أحبها، وكان عمر يكرهها، فقال لي: طلقها، فأبيت، فأتى عمر رسول الله ﷺ فذكر ذلك له. فقال النبي ﷺ: طلقها وفي رواية: أطع أباك
Narrated by Abu Dawud (5138), Tirmidhi (1189), Ibn Majah (2088), and Ahmad (4711), and Ibn Hibban (426) and Hakim (2/197, 4/152) graded it sahih, all of them from the hadith of Ibn Abu Dhib, from his maternal uncle Harith bin Abdul-Rahman, from Hamza bin Abdullah, from Abdullah bin Umar, who related it.Its chain is hasan because of Harith bin Abdul-Rahman, who is the Qurashi Amiri, the maternal uncle of Ibn Abu Dhib, and his hadith is hasan.Tirmidhi said, "Hasan sahih, we only know it from the hadith of Ibn Abu Dhib."
