The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Do you have any decorated cloth coverings?"I replied, "How would we have such coverings?"He said, "You will indeed come to have them."Jabir said, So I say to her, meaning his wife, "Keep your coverings away from me."She replies, "Did the Prophet ﷺ not say that you would come to have such coverings?"So I leave her be.
قال لي رسول الله ﷺ: هل لكم أنماط؟ قلت: وأنى يكون لنا الأنماط؟ قال: أما أنه سيكون لكم الأنماط قال جابر: فأنا أقول لها- يعني امرأته- أخري عني أنماطك، فتقول: ألم يقل النبي ﷺ: إنها ستكون لكم الأنماط؟ فأدعها.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Virtues (3631) and Muslim in the Book of Clothing (2083), both from the hadith of Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi, who said, "Sufyan narrated to us, from Muhammad bin Munkadir, from Jabir," and he mentioned it. The wording given here is Bukhari's. As for Muslim, he referred back to what preceded it.His saying "anmat" refers to a type of spread with fine, soft pile, generally used on the wedding night and the nights following it to welcome the bride.
