"The worst food is the food of a wedding banquet to which the rich are invited and the poor are left out. Whoever does not accept the invitation has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger."
شر الطعام طعام الوليمة، يدعى لها الأغنياء، ويترك المساكين، ومن لم يأت الدعوة فقد عصى الله ورسوله.
Malik narrated it in the Book of Marriage (50), from Ibn Shihab, from Araj, from Abu Hurairah, as mentioned. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Marriage (5177) and Muslim in the Book of Marriage (1432:197), both of them through the route of Malik, with the same wording. This hadith is stopped at the level of Abu Hurairah, but his statement at the end, "Whoever does not attend the invitation has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger," implies that it is raised to the Prophet. For this reason, the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) included it.
