The Prophet ﷺ said, "Adam and Musa argued with each other.Musa said to him, 'Adam, you are our father. You disappointed us and caused us to be expelled from Paradise.'Adam said to him, 'Musa, Allah chose you to speak with directly and inscribed for you with His own hand. Do you blame me for a matter that Allah decreed for me forty years before He created me?'So Adam outargued Musa, Adam outargued Musa."In the narration of Ibn Abu Umar and Ibn Abdah, one of them said, "inscribed," while the other said, "wrote the Torah for you with His hand."
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Divine Decree (2652), from Muhammad bin Hatim, Ibrahim bin Dinar, and Ibn Abu Umar Makki, and Ahmad bin Abdah Dabbi, all of them from Ibn Uyayna (the wording is that of Ibn Hatim and Ibn Dinar), and they said, Sufyan bin Uyayna narrated to us, from Amr, from Tawus, who said, I heard Abu Hurairah say, and then he related the hadith.Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Divine Decree (6614), from Ali bin Abdullah, who said, Sufyan narrated to us, saying, We memorized it from Amr, with his chain of transmission, in a similar manner. It does not contain the wording that appears in the version of Ibn Abu Umar Makki.Abu Dawud narrated it (4701) from Musaddad and Ahmad bin Salih, both of them from Sufyan bin Uyayna, with his chain of transmission, and in it Adam said, "You are Musa, whom Allah chose to speak to directly, and for whom He inscribed the Torah with His own hand."
