The Prophet ﷺ said, "Any man and unmarried woman who agree to live together for three nights, if they wish to extend the period they may extend it, and if they wish to part ways they may part ways."
أن النبي ﷺ قال: أيما رجل وامرأة أيم تراضيا بعشرتهما ثلاث ليال، فإن أرادا أن يتزايدا تزايدا، وإن أرادا أن يتشاركا شاركا.

Tabarani related it in Mujam al-Kabir (27/7) via the route of Muhammad bin Abbad Makki, who said, Hatim bin Ismail told us, from Ibn Abu Dhib, from Iyas bin Salama bin Akwa, from his father, and he mentioned it. Its chain is sahih.Bukhari cited this hadith without a full chain in the chapter on marriage (5119), saying, "Ibn Abu Dhib said, Iyas bin Salama bin Akwa told me," with this wording, transmitting it, "Whatever man and woman agree to a temporary union, their cohabitation lasts three nights, and if they wish to extend it or part ways, they may part." "I do not know whether this was something specific to us or general for all people." Bukhari added after it, "Ali has made clear, from the Prophet ﷺ, that this was abrogated."Al-Hafiz said in Fath al-Bari (9/173), "Tabarani, Ismaili, and Abu Naeem connected it with full chains through several routes from Ibn Abu Dhib."
