The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When the deceased is placed in the grave, two black-and-blue angels come to him. One is called Munkar and the other Nakir. They ask him, 'What did you used to say about this man?'"He then mentioned the hadith in its full length, and it will appear in its proper place in complete form.
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إذا قبر الميت أتاه ملكان أسودان أزرقان يقال لأحدهما: المنكر، والآخر: النكير فيقولان: ما كنت تقول في هذا الرجل؟ فذكر الحديث بطوله، وسيأتي في موضعه كاملا.
Tirmidhi (1071) narrated it from Abu Salama Yahya bin Khalaf, who said, Bishr bin Mufaddal narrated to us, from Abdul-Rahman bin Ishaq, from Saeed bin Abu Saeed Maqburi, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it.Tirmidhi said, "Hasan, rare."I say, it is as he said, for in its chain is Abdul-Rahman bin Ishaq Amiri, who is disputed, though his hadith is hasan. Ibn Hibban also included it in his Sahih (3117) through this same route.The rest of the hadiths mentioning Munkar and Nakir will come in the book of funerals.As for the mention of Harut and Marut, and that in heaven there are Adhra and Uzayr, this is not established. It occurs only in a report from Ibn Abbas that stops with him, and among its narrators is Abdullah bin Kaysan, who narrates from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas. His narration from Ikrima is not reliably preserved, as Ibn Adi noted.See Majma Bahrayn (1318).
