This was narrated by Abu Dawud (4098), Ibn Majah (1903), and Ahmad (8309), and Ibn Hibban (5751) and Hakim (4/194) graded it sahih. All of them transmitted it through Suhayl bin Abu Salih, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, who narrated it.Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim."As for what is reported from Abu Hurairah, who said, "The Messenger of Allah cursed the effeminate men who imitate women, and the mannish women who imitate men," in another version it adds, "that he cursed those men and women who abstain from marriage, and the one who spends the night alone."This was narrated by Imam Ahmad (7855) from Ayub bin Najjar, Abu Ismail Yamami, from Tayyib bin Muhammad, from Ata bin Abu Rabah, from Abu Hurairah, who narrated it.The second version is found in Bukhari's Tarikh al-Kabir (4/362).Its chain is daif because of Tayyib bin Muhammad, who is "unknown," since no one narrated from him except Ayub bin Najjar, and no one deemed him reliable except Ibn Hibban, who is known for being lenient in this regard.Bukhari said, "It is not sound," and Aqeeli mentioned him in Duafa Kabir (2/232), saying, "His narration contains contradictions."As for his statement, "and the one who spends the night alone," no one else corroborated it, and it is one of his objectionable narrations.
