Umar came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, I am ruined."The Prophet asked, "What has ruined you?"Umar replied, "I turned my saddle around last night."The Messenger of Allah did not respond to him with anything. Then this verse was revealed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "Your wives are a tilth for you, so come to your tilth as you wish" [Baqarah 2:223]. Approach from the front or from the back, but avoid the anus and menstruation.
جاء عمر إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقال: يا رسول الله! هلكت. قال: وما أهلكك؟ قال: حولت رحلي الليلة. قال: فلم يرد عليه رسول الله شيئا، قال: فأنزلت على رسول الله ﷺ هذه الآية {نساؤكم حرث لكم فأتوا حرثكم أنى شئتم} أقبل وأدبر، واتق الدبر والحيضة.
Tirmidhi (2980), Ahmad (2703), and Bayhaqi (197/7) all narrated it through the route of Yaqub bin Abdullah Qummi, who said, Jafar bin Mughira narrated to us, from Saeed bin Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (4202).Its chain is hasan because of Yaqub bin Abdullah Qummi, for there is disagreement about him. Daraqutni graded him daif, while others considered him acceptable, though he is hasan al-hadith. The chain also contains narrators at the level of "saduq."His statement, "I turned my mount around," is an allusion to approaching the woman from behind while entering through the front.
