I attended the Eid prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He began with the prayer before the sermon, without adhan or iqamah. Then he stood, leaning on Bilal, and commanded the people to fear Allah and urged them to obey Him. He admonished the people and reminded them. Then he proceeded until he came to the women. He admonished them and reminded them, saying, "Give in charity, for most of you are the firewood of Hell."A woman from the middle of the women's group, with darkened cheeks, stood up and asked, "Why is that, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "Because you complain often and are ungrateful to your husbands."So they began giving in charity from their jewelry, throwing their earrings and rings into Bilal's garment.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of the Two Eid Prayers (4:885) from Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Numayr, who said, my father narrated to us, who said, Abdul-Malik bin Abu Sulayman narrated to us, from Ataa, from Jabir, and he related it.Bukhari narrated it in the Book of the Two Eids (978) through Abdul-Razzaq, who said, Ibn Jurayj narrated to us, who said, Ataa informed me, from Jabir bin Abdullah, and he related it similarly, but it did not contain his saying, "Give charity," up to his saying, "and are ungrateful to your husbands."
