I asked, "Messenger of Allah, what is the right of our wives upon us?"He replied, "That you feed her when you eat, clothe her when you clothe yourself, do not strike the face, do not insult her, and do not abandon her except within the house."
قلت: يا رسول الله! ما حق زوجة أحدنا عليه؟ قال: أن تطعمها إذا طعمت، وتكسوها إذا اكتسيت، ولا تضرب الوجه، ولا تقبح، ولا تهجر إلا في البيت.
Abu Dawud (2142) and Ibn Majah (1850) narrated it, and Ibn Hibban (4175) and Hakim (2/187-188) graded it sahih, all of them through the route of Abu Qazaa from Hakeem bin Muawiya, who mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Hakeem bin Muawiya, for he is "truthful."Abu Dawud (2143) also narrated it through another route from Bahz bin Hakeem, who said, my father told us, from my grandfather, who said, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, as for our wives, what may we approach of them and what should we avoid?" He said, "Approach your tillage as you wish, feed her when you eat, clothe her when you clothe yourself, do not disfigure her face, and do not strike her."And in another wording, "Feed them from what you eat, clothe them from what you wear, do not strike them, and do not disfigure them."See the hadith in full in the Book of Faith, chapter on asking about the pillars of Islam.
