Saad bin Abu Waqqas reported, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Uhud, and with him were two men dressed in white garments fighting in his defense most fiercely. I had never seen them before, nor did I ever see them afterward."In another narration, "On the day of Uhud, I saw on the right and left of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ two men dressed in white garments. I had never seen them before, nor did I ever see them afterward," meaning Jibreel and Mikail, peace be upon them.
رأيت رسول الله ﷺ يوم أحد ومعه رجلان يقاتلان عنه عليهما ثياب بيض كأشد القتال، ما رأيتهما قبل ولا بعد. وفي رواية: رأيت عن يمين رسول الله ﷺ وشماله يوم أحد رجلين عليهما ثياب بياض، ما رأيتهما قبل ولا بعد- يعني جبريل وميكائيل عليهما السلام.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Military Expeditions (4054), and Muslim in the Book of Virtues (2306), both from the hadith of Ibrahim bin Saad, from his father (Saad), from his grandfather (Ibrahim bin Abdul-Rahman bin Awf), from Saad bin Abu Waqqas, who related it.The second narration is also found in both of them, Bukhari (5826) and Muslim, both from the hadith of Masaar, from Saad bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Saad bin Abu Waqqas, who related the like of it, and the wording given is Muslim's. Bukhari did not mention his saying, "meaning Jibreel and Mikail."
