The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Woman was created from a rib. She will never remain perfectly straight for you. If you wish to enjoy her, you will enjoy her with her crookedness intact. But if you set out to straighten her, you will break her, and her breaking is her divorce."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إن المرأة خلقت من ضلع لن تستقيم لك على طريقة. فإن استمتعت بها استمتعت بها، وبها عوج، وإن ذهبت تقيمها كسرتها، وكسرها طلاقها.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Suckling (61/1468) through multiple routes from Sufyan, from Abu Zinad, from Aaraj, from Abu Hurairah, as mentioned, and this is his wording. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Marriage (5184) through another route from Abu Zinad with his chain, except that he did not mention "and breaking it means divorcing her."It was also narrated through two other routes from Ayesha, who said, the Messenger of Allah said, "Woman is like a rib, if you try to straighten it you will break it, and one enjoys her despite the crookedness in her."The first of these was narrated by Imam Ahmad (26384) from Amir bin Salih, who said, Hisham bin Urwa told me, from his father, from Ayesha, as mentioned. Amir bin Salih is the son of Abdullah bin Urwa bin Zubayr bin Awwam al-Madani, who settled in Baghdad. Ahmad said, he is trustworthy, he was not one given to lying. Abu Hatim said, his hadith is sound, I see no harm in his hadith. But Ibn Main said, he is a wicked liar, an enemy of Allah. Nasai said, he is not trustworthy. Ibn Adi said, most of his hadith is stolen from trustworthy narrators, along with singular reports that he alone transmits. Daraqutni said, his case was not made clear to Ahmad, and he is from Madinah, and in my view he should be disregarded. The second was narrated by Bazzar, in Kashf Astar (1479), through the route of Amr bin Abu Salama, from Zuhayr bin Muhammad, from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Ayesha. Zuhayr bin Muhammad al-Tamimi al-Anbari al-Khurasani came to Syria and settled in the Hijaz. Ahmad deemed him trustworthy, but Abu Hatim said, "He is truthful in status, but there is weakness in his memory, and his hadith in Syria was more objectionable than his hadith in Iraq, due to the weakness of his memory. So what he narrated from memory contains errors, while what he narrated from his books is sound." This narration is among what Amr bin Abu Salama transmitted from him, and he is Syrian. The hadith of Ayesha has yet another chain, which is what Salih bin Abu Akhdar narrated, from Zuhri, from Urwa, from Ayesha. Daraqutni said in al-Ilal (140/9), "The correct version is from Zuhri, from Saeed, from Abu Hurairah."
