I used to play with dolls in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ, and I had friends who would play with me. Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered, they would shrink away and hide from him, so he would send them in to me, and they would play with me.
كنت ألعب بالبنات عند النبي ﷺ وكان لي صواحب يلعبن معي. فكان رسول الله ﷺ إذا دخل يتقمعن منه، فيسربهن إلي فيلعبن معي.
Bukhari related it in Adab (6130) and Muslim in Fadail al-Sahabah (2440), both by way of Hisham, from his father, from Ayesha, and I have mentioned it. The wording given is Bukhari's, and Muslim's wording is similar.Her saying, "I used to play with dolls," shows that playing with a doll is permissible. Her saying, "yataqamma'na," means they would hide themselves out of shyness and awe of him. Her saying, "yusarribuhunna," means he would send them and bring them over to me.
