A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, I have come to offer myself to you in marriage."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked at her, examining her carefully from head to toe, then lowered his head. When the woman saw that he had not decided anything regarding her, she sat down… and the hadith continues.
أن امرأة جاءت إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقالت: يا رسول الله، جئت لأهب لك نفسي! فنظر إليها رسول الله ﷺ فصعد النظر إليها وصوبه، ثم طأطأ رأسه. فلما رأت المرأة أنه لم يقض فيها شيئا جلست… الحديث.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Marriage (5126) and Muslim in the Book of Marriage (76:1425), both from Qutayba bin Saeed Thaqafi, who said, Yaqub (meaning Ibn Abdul-Rahman Qari) narrated to us, from Abu Hazim, from Sahl bin Saad, who mentioned it.
