The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "None of you should propose marriage over the proposal of his brother." Wazad added in another narration, "until he marries her or leaves her."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: لا يخطب أحدكم على خطبة أخيه وزاد في رواية: حتى ينكح أو يترك.
Malik narrated it in the Book of Marriage (1) from Muhammad bin Yahya bin Habban, from Araj, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it.Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Marriage (5143) via Layth, from Jafar bin Rabia, from Araj, with the same wording, beginning with, "Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the most untruthful form of speech..." the hadith along with the addition mentioned.Muslim narrated it in the Book of Marriage (1413) through several routes from Abu Hurairah, both in shortened and extended forms.
