Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

A group of Jews came to the Prophet of Allah ﷺ one day and said, "Abu Qasim, tell us about certain matters we wish to ask you about, things that only a prophet would know."He replied, "Ask me whatever you wish, but grant me the covenant of Allah, and the pledge that Yaqub took from his sons, that if I tell you something and you recognize it to be true, you will follow me into Islam."They said, "That is yours."He said, "Then ask me whatever you wish."They said, "Tell us about four matters. Tell us which food Israil forbade to himself before the Torah was sent down. Tell us about the fluid of the woman and the fluid of the man, and how a male child comes from them. And tell us how this unlettered prophet is in his sleep, and which of the angels is his companion."He said, "You are bound by the covenant of Allah and His pledge, that if I tell you, you will follow me."They gave him the covenant and the pledge he asked for.He said, "I call upon you by the One who sent down the Torah to Musa ﷺ, do you know that Israil, that is Yaqub , fell gravely ill and his sickness lasted long, and he vowed that if Allah the Exalted cured him of his sickness he would forbid himself the drink he loved most and the food he loved most, and that the food he loved most was camel flesh and the drink he loved most was camel milk?"They said, "Yes, by Allah."He said, "Allah, bear witness against them."Then he said, "I call upon you by Allah, other than whom there is no god, the One who sent down the Torah to Musa, do you know that the fluid of the man is white and thick, and the fluid of the woman is yellow and thin, and that whichever of the two prevails, the child and the resemblance belong to it by the permission of Allah? If the man's fluid prevails over the woman's, the child is male by the permission of Allah, and if the woman's fluid prevails over the man's, the child is female by the permission of Allah."They said, "Yes, by Allah."He said, "Allah, bear witness against them."Then he said, "I call upon you by the One who sent down the Torah to Musa, do you know that this unlettered prophet's eyes sleep but his heart does not sleep?"They said, "Yes, by Allah."He said, "Allah, bear witness."They said, "Now tell us which of the angels is your companion, for on that we will either join you or part from you."He said, "My companion is Jibreel , and Allah has never sent any prophet without Jibreel being his companion."They said, "Then on that we part from you. Had your companion been any other of the angels, we would have followed you and believed you."He asked, "What prevents you from believing him?"They said, "He is our enemy."At that, Allah revealed "Say, whoever is an enemy to Jibreel, it is he who brought it down upon your heart by the permission of Allah" up to His words "whoever is an enemy to Allah, His angels, His messengers, Jibreel, and Mikail, then indeed Allah is an enemy to the disbelievers" [Baqarah 2:97–101]. And at that also came "and when a messenger came to them from Allah" [Baqarah 2:89].

عن عبد الله بن عباس

حضرت عصابة من اليهود نبي الله ﷺ يوما فقالوا: يا أبا القاسم، حدثنا عن خلال نسألك عنهن لا يعلمهن إلا نبي قال: سلوني عما شئتم، ولكن اجعلوا لي ذمة الله وما أخذ يعقوب عليه السلام على بنيه لئن حدثتكم شيئا فعرفتموه لتتابعنني على الإسلام. قالوا فذلك لك. قال: فسلوني عما شئتم. قالوا: أخبرنا عن أربع خلال نسألك عنهن: أخبرنا أي الطعام حرم إسرائيل على نفسه من قبل أن تنزل التوراة؟ وأخبرنا كيف ماء المرأة وماء الرجل كيف يكون الذكر منه؟ وأخبرنا كيف هذا النبي الأمي في النوم ومن وليه من الملائكة؟ قال: فعليكم عهد الله وميثاقه لئن أخبرتكم لتتابعني. قال: فأعطوه ما شاء من عهد وميثاق. قال: فناشدكم بالذي أنزل التوراة على موسى ﷺ هل تعلمون أن إسرائيل يعقوب عليه السلام مرض مرضا شديدا وطال سقمه فنذر لئن شفاه الله تعالى من سقمه ليحرمن أحب الشراب إليه وأحب الطعام إليه وكان أحب الطعام إليه لحمان الإبل، وأحب الشراب إليه ألبان الإبل؟ قالوا: اللهم نعم. قال: اللهم اشهد عليهم. فناشدكم بالله الذي لا إله إلا هو الذي أنزل التوراة على موسى هل تعلمون أن ماء الرجل أبيض غليظ وأن ماء المرأة أصفر رقيق فأيهما علا كان له الولد والشبه بإذن الله، إن علا ماء الرجل على ماء المرأة كان ذكرا بإذن الله، وإن علا ماء المرأة على ماء الرجل كان أنثى بإذن الله؟ قالوا: اللهم نعم. قال: اللهم أشهد عليهم، فناشدكم بالذي أنزل التوراة على موسى هل تعلمون أن هذا النبي الأمي تنام عيناه ولا ينام قلبه؟ قالوا: اللهم نعم. قال: اللهم أشهد. قالوا: وأنت الآن فحدثنا من وليك من الملائكة فعندها نجامعك أو نفارقك؟ قال: فإن وليي جبريل عليه السلام ولم يبعث الله نبيا قط إلا وهو وليه قالوا: فعندها نفارقك لو كان وليك سواه من الملائكة لتابعناك وصدقناك. قال: فما يمنعكم من أن تصدقوه؟ قالوا: إنه عدونا. قال: فعند ذلك قال الله عز وجل: {قل من كان عدوا لجبريل فإنه نزله على قلبك بإذن الله} إلى قوله: {من كان عدوا لله وملئكته ورسله وجبريل وميكىل فان الله عدو للكفرين} [البقرة: ٩٧- ١٠١]، فعند ذلك {ولما جاءهم رسول من عند الله} [البقرة: ٨٩].
