The Prophet ﷺ, when congratulating a person on his marriage, would say, "May Allah bless you, may He shower His blessings upon you, and may He join you both in goodness."
أن النبي ﷺ كان إذا رفأ الإنسان- إذا تزوج- قال بارك الله لك، وبارك عليك وجمع بينكما في خير.
Abu Dawud (2130), Tirmidhi (1091), Ibn Majah (1905), Ahmad (8956), and Darimi (2220) all narrated it, and Ibn Hibban (4052) and Hakim (2/183) graded it sahih, all of them through the hadith of Abdul-Aziz bin Muhammad Darawardi, from Suhayl bin Abu Salih, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, who said, then he related it.Tirmidhi said, this is a hasan sahih hadith. Hakim said, it is sahih according to the criterion of Muslim.I say, it is as he said, except that its chain of transmission is hasan due to the discussion surrounding Abdul-Aziz bin Muhammad Darawardi, though he is otherwise reliable in his hadith (hasan al-hadith).As for the word "rifa" (with the fa doubled), it is a term the people of pre-Islamic ignorance used to say. A prohibition against it then came, as mentioned in the hadith that follows, because it involves singling out sons for the supplication to the exclusion of daughters, in keeping with the customs of pre-Islamic ignorance stemming from the disdain for daughters.
